Hey, I have a general question. What are you guys on offering potential clients free engagement sessions before booking you as their wedding photographer?

Ok - so I super waited to respond to this because I was assuming people would chime in, but I can't wait any more. So : here's my two cents, take it with a grain of salt but also know there's a LOT of data behind these silly opinions. People don't want "free" before they book - they want to be surprised and served after they book beyond the value they were expecting. That's sort of a universal trend by the way. Imagine this, you shop for a car and fall in love with one. You get a decent price on it but it was more than you were hoping to spend, BUT you love it and you decide to stretch and buy it anyway and after you sign the last piece of paper your sales rep says... "I'm super grateful that you trusted me with this big decision. I've gone ahead of put some of my own commission from this sale into making sure that this purchase was a really good one for you so you'll be receiving free washes, oil changes, and tire rotations for the next year totally on me and if you have any problems what so ever please contact me even prior to you reaching out to a mechanic or the shop at the dealership so I can make sure and connect you directly with somebody I trust to take the kind of care of you that I would." .... IMMEDIATE justification of value and cost. What is that person going to do first? Go tell everybody they know about how incredible this specific person is treating them, because it feels GOOD to be surprised with service. That's a marketing plan all it's own, but let's boil it down to a posture. If your posture is : let me give you something for free to convince you to spend money then you're fighting up hill... BUT if your posture is, give me the opportunity to prove to you that what you're paying for is far less than what you're getting - that's SOLID.
